Patriots Match Best Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five touchdowns in the present year
The New England Patriots equaled their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots secured an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after falling to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had gone in front at their home field with QB Fields running in a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' first possession
But the home team responded in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields connected with Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
