Overwhelmed HK Inhabitants Stunned as Large-Scale Blaze Engulfs Housing Blocks

"Approaching the area, the heat increases and you can sense it, with the fumes being very heavy."

Young scholar Thomas Liu was among the many individuals attracted to the site of a fatal blaze that ravaged much of the eight-block housing complex in the city's Tai Po district.

At least over three dozen individuals have lost their lives in Wednesday's destructive blaze so far, with hundreds still unaccounted for, leading to expectations that this figure will possibly increase.

"It's a disaster," the witness stated about the fire, adding that he had seen a victim being taken away from the location.

More than a 1,000 additional residents were required to evacuate the complex as the flames advanced, with some making their way to emergency shelters that have been set up to shelter them.

The fire is progressively being controlled, but emergency responders state they cannot determine when it will be completely extinguished.

Flames could be witnessed coming from separate apartments as countless people watched in stillness.

"I am overwhelmed. There are so many neighbors and friends. I do not know what is happening now. Observe, all the apartments are just on fire. I am unsure what to accomplish. I hope the authorities can support us to rebuild after this."

A female resident explained that her neighbors live inside the building and she was staying to discover if they were able to get out.

An elderly inhabitant, who has resided in the second building of the housing complex for more than 40 annums, mentioned listening to "a very loud noise" and observing flames break out in a nearby building.

"I promptly went to my apartment to pack up my possessions," the elderly occupant stated.

"I don't even know how I personally at this moment. I'm just pondering about where I'm going to stay this evening because I probably will not go back home."

Even though the cause of the blaze that overwhelmed the multiple tall buildings is still undetermined, the flames are suspected to have quickly advanced through the temporary structures that enveloped the structures, which were experiencing renovations.

Numerous individuals have demonstrated anger that such a massive incident could have taken place and criticised the emergency measures.

"During there's a wildfire, they will deploy aircraft and drop extinguishing materials, but why is there not any deployment and how can they allow further buildings on fire?" questioned a different resident of the estate.

"This area is so near to the fire station and we thought the blaze could be extinguished quickly, but now the blaze has advanced. I'm so disheartened," she added.

The resident stated that she had been given no instructions from the government on where to find help.

Multiple area residents had delivered necessities to the impacted residents - comprising dozens of warm layers and thermal aids.

When asked about their sentiments regarding the blaze, locals stated that "authorities is ineffective" and that they were "profoundly devastated".

"We hope not to see any further casualties," commented one.

An elderly lady who lives in one of the impacted blocks explained she was absent when the fire started but that she is concerned about her residence because it is uninsured.

"I'm extremely distressed that I have no home to return to at present," she remarked.
